Broad Oak School - Main Building

Welcome to Broad Oak Community Primary School and thank you for taking the time to find out about our school.  Making the decision about which school is the right one for your child can be difficult, but we hope that this prospectus will help you to make that decision and give you a flavour of Broad Oak and the learning opportunities we provide here.

The village of Broad Oak is situated just outside Heathfield on the A265 towards Burwash. Our school is in a quiet, rural location with an excellent outlook over the Rother Valley.

Introduction

Our Community Primary School is for children from both Broad Oak and the surrounding rural locality and is part of the East Sussex Local Education Authority. We are a five-class primary school.  Our children usually start after their fourth birthday and stay with us until they reach eleven.  The school is set in picturesque rural surroundings. It has a strong family atmosphere and emphasis is placed on happy relationships; in particular, care, consideration and cooperation with everyone.  Broad Oak School is a community rather than just being a school; new children and families are made to feel welcome and very much at ease.

We want to prepare our children for their next step in education and for their future in the world beyond Broad Oak.

The Woodlands Federation

Broad Oak C P School and Punnetts Town C.P. School are working in partnership as The Woodlands Federation.  They formally federated in January 2008 with a single governing body and one head teacher, Maria Maslin, who was already head teacher of Broad Oak C.P. School.

The Woodlands Federation enables two geographically close, rural, primary schools to work closely together to improve the learning opportunities for all of the pupils whilst at the same maintaining each school’s unique character within a village setting.

The federation offers parents the choice of a small school, where every child is treated as an individual, whilst being part of a larger organisation that can draw upon a greater range of staff expertise and opportunities to share work and experiences.

The Woodlands Federation is the first federation in East Sussex and we are, therefore, leading the way for other such partnerships in the county.

What kind of school do you want for your child?

At Broad Oak, your child will be part of a school where……….

·        There is a strong family atmosphere

·        Children are valued and treated as individuals

·        There are high expectations of learning and behaviour

·        Children are encouraged to be part of a wider community

The swimming pool at Broad Oak School

We have two playing fields, a playground, a garden area and an open-air, heated, learner swimming pool. The school is set in beautiful scenery with attractive grounds and environmental pond, vegetable garden and a new memorial garden. We are very proud of our environment and strive to improve it year on year.

Visits to Our School

We encourage prospective parents to visit our school.  If you would like to come and look around and catch a glimpse of what we get up to at Broad Oak, please phone the school office to make an appointment.  The pictures tell you a lot about how we work at the school, but we would recommend that you visit us on a normal school day.
